quockwodger courtesyofautomatism Peeps, When a taped clip of the speech made by Republican presidential nominee, namely Governor Mittens Romney, surfaced, it caused a bit of embarrassment. Perhaps shocking and alarming to some, yet others saw it as just another indicator of the GOP's emphasis on preserving a tax system which continues to reward the rich at the expense of a dwindling middle class.  And, if we are to believe the sentiment expressed by Mr Romney to a group of wealthy donors, he regards 47% of the general populace as irrelevant for they, or we, continue to see ourselves as victims, are incapable of holding jobs, and 'believe that {we} are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, you name it . . . .'  I find it sad, as well as perplexing, that an individual who campaigns for election, who yearns to hold public office as the nation's leader, could so casually dismiss millions of lives as not being part of his focus--now, or later. A purvey of

photocourtesydesiretoinspireblog Peeps, It's become increasingly clear that fall--my favorite season--is finally here.  Mornings are crisp and cool, and the slight chill felt as the sun drops on the western horizon is quiet pleasant and holds the promise that the coming months (of October and November) will be most enjoyable.  Plans for a new garden are finalized, and installation starts next week, which fills me with excitement.  Nothing comes close to the thrill and anticipation of creating a woodland garden from what is now a neglected backyard.  Hopefully the outcome will be a lush paradise for very nice clients.  The plant list includes lots of natives to provide food and shelter for our winged friends and the visiting butterflies who'll be back in the spring. I trust that everyone is having a long and restful Sunday evening, and thanks for all your emails this past week.  I'm feeling much better now, and plan to get back to the gym tomorrow evening.  So look

photocourtesyartsake viacolorsoflifeblog Peeps, More than ever, open dialogue between all affected groups is needed.  It's pretty serious stuff when an American ambassador and his staff are murdered by a 'mob of fundamentalists;' even more serious are the some of the issues at stake:  freedom of speech (or expression), the role of the government censorship, as well as the play at power between high (the robed theocrats) and low (the millions of believers whose belief is shaped by the mullahs who function as intermediaries between holy script and everyday life).  The recent events seem pretty barbaric, and to some, evidence of some type of impending scourge, the preview to Sodom + Gomorrah (or something like that!).  Yet, here at home and if memory serves me right a year or two ago, several abortion clinics were bombed and medical personnel killed; all this now history best forgotten or shelved into distant memory as we continue to express shock, horror, and dismay a

photocourtesyathoughfuleyeblog Peeps, I must admit to being somewhat distracted as of late, perhaps since the end of the last week or the beginning of this one.  It's been pretty hard to stay disinterested, or distanced, as the political rhetoric exploded in the respective arenas of the Republic and Democrat Conventions.  Yet, even above the noise created by the chants and jeers, promises and lies, rants and raves, there is the prevailing sense that America, as a nation, is poised--perhaps the term teetering may be more apt--on the brink of promise, or peril.  A condition which becomes more apparent with each new day, or the evening's news-broadcast. Whether it's a matter of perspective, or inner prejudices, the actions of some as of late seem petty and vicious, totally 'un-American,' and contrary to the spirit of democracy espoused to the world at large.  Credibility abroad becomes questionable when the ethics of voter surpression, campaign financing, and r

END-OF-THE-SUMMER VISUAL CANDY / Day 5

Image
imagecourtesyathoughfuleyeblog Peeps, I keep reminding myself to just look up, around, change my perception, and thus experience the unexpected beauty of everyday life.  It would be lovely to be a jet-setter setting off to exotic locales; or a world-traveller whose itinerary included much-vaunted, must-see sights.  Yet as one slowly realizes, beauty exists in small and often overlooked environs.  A walk through the woods after a thunder-storm; the unexpected view from a formerly shuttered window; or, that which is revealed (and beheld) through taking the proverbial ' long way home.'  Whenever and wherever we glimpse beauty, our soul is invigorated, and the heart beats--stronger.  Here, at this little online blog devoted to visual beauty, I believe that you too are as moved as I am, by the wonders all around us. I hope you love today's visual treat as much as I do. Thanks, Shane Today's soundtrack is DA LATA's Pra Manha (Elfen Remix) ( http://www.yo

END-OF-THE-SUMMER VISUAL CANDY / Day 4

Image
imagecourtesywhatwilsonwantsblog Peeps, Last night's sudden downpour certainly elicited sighs and groans from many in evening dress who ducked for cover under store-front canopies, yet for others it signaled the end to our all-too-long drought which seemed to stretch endlessly through the month of August.  Just a day before I noted that once vigorous sunflowers stood listlessly by the road-side, and swaths of cone-flowers and Queen Anne's lace appeared parched and forlorn. Today, almost magically, it seemed that a new lease on beauty had been granted.  Sufficient praise, or thanks, cannot be offered to the heavens in gratitude for the gift of rain, which for all creation, is the gift of life. Sincerely, Shane Today's soundtrack is ANDAIN's Much Too Much (Rido Remix)( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZyvr1ygXBg )
