 Color is a mood setter.  It can make you feel great.  But people have a fear of color.  They're afraid of what their friends will say or not say.  White is glum and beige is boring.  I'm Italian.  For me black is mourning.  Mind you, I had a black kitchen once that I loved.  Food looks sensational in a black room.

imagecourtesydesiretoinspireblog Peeps, I've been doing my best to avoid the headline news concerning the upcoming election, as well as the varied stump speeches and television ads by the political candidates.  At least through the upcoming month, I plan to switch radio stations, perhaps listening only to classical music (on 90.9 FM), or if I can, surrender to the hypnotic (and varied) music programs of WRNR (103.1 FM) which broadcasts from Annapolis, MD, and can be heard as one approaches the (Chesapeake) Bay.  My co-workers complain that too much NPR affects my mood, perhaps setting a more sombre note to the day, and I'm sure that there is a certain truth to this.  Kudos to the dedicated staff at public radio who strive to provide unbiased and informed news-content (day after day)!!  Yet, as we are all aware, dire consequences around the world result from the hasty decisions made by unethical 'decidors' under less than transparent circumstances (here at home)...

imagesourceunknown Peeps, This is the season of sniffles, headaches, sore muscles, coughs, mild colds and so forth.  This week the landscaping crew exhibited many of these symptoms; I am acutely aware that plenty of rest and liquids are called for, yet with a tight schedule leading up to the holidays, one must press on, and thankfully not a single individual has been absent for work.  Last week Friday, Jane, the kind nurse, insisted that I get a flu-shot and without hesitation I did just that, knowing that it is the best prevention against getting the flu, as well as hoping that new strains of the bug will remain in parts yonder.  I still remember the first (and only) time that I got the flu, and something with which I had had no experience.  In January 1995, I woke up one morning unable to move and in a condition closer to a corpse than I had ever felt before (or since).  In the weeks that followed, this a period of slow, slow recovery, tiny steps as such...

The PEEPSHOW celebrates MOTHER' DAY 2012

imagecourtesybijouxandbohemeblog Peeps, It would be fair to say that those of us fortunate to have our mothers still in our lives, are infinitely blessed.  Others, perhaps not so fortunate, live with memories.  On reflecting upon my vocation of creating interiors and gardens, full credit must be given to my mother for fostering a deep appreciation for the aesthetic, even if at times during my teenage years it all seemed like a tiresome burden.  While other kids seemed to have the entire length of summer vacations for innumerable games of soccer or bike-rides that stretched endlessly, my all too-brief break from the monotony of high-school invariably involved a summer-redux of our home in which walls were dusted and cleaned in preparation for painting (perhaps done every 2nd year to coincide with some ancient ritual I've yet to discover).  All the furniture had to be polished, window-treatments carefully washed and repaired, mattresses aired, and rugs beaten w...
