It's the beginning of the month of September, and for many it is a clear signal of autumn.  Yet the absence of rain and the continuance of hot, humid days makes for lots of hand-watering at dusk or dawn.  Thirsty plants, especially zinnias, show their gratitude through even more resplendent blooms.  Until the earth cools, one must stay vigilant . . .
