Within a week or two, the shops once again will be be filled with Christmas tree ornaments, wreaths and so forth; gifts and gadgets, as well as goodies and gourmet foods that are best enjoyed in company lest we become solitary gluts. TV ads and shows will be devoted to the joys of sharing and loving (during the season), and radio DJ's will invariably play 'Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer,' and a too-long list of insipid and icky-sweet covers of Christmas classics by contemporary artists who wisely should have keep quiet. The design magazines will attempt to outdo each other in offering up the finest/coziest/grandest/most thematic/most eco-friendly/color-coordinated and so forth articles on decorating one's home for the holidays, and before the second reading of the third issue, we will all realize that irrespective of one's belief/religion/creed, there is always a little something that can be done to dress up the homestead--if not for ourselves and our immediate family, then for the neighbors.
Before we start featuring holiday treats (on this blog), I wanted to share with you (loyal readers) assorted pics of various interiors that have caught my eye. Today's visual treat seems like a smart way to dress up a doorway, and seems so fresh, elegant, and simple. The colors are bold, yet restful; every home should have a painting of one's ancestor (even if 'borrowed'), and toy soldiers, as well as a real soldier (boy or girl) can be welcome company through the long winter months ahead.
Please enjoy today's visual treat, and stay warm!!
Sincerely,
Shane
PS: Wonderfully made games, stuffed animals, board-games (and toy-soldiers) can be found at speciality shops and at my friend Sara's toy store The Toymaker (in Williamsburg, VA) or online at www.toymakerofwilliamsburg.com.
