Peeps,

Haute Couture surpasses mere dress-making because it is fantasy made visible.  The designer's artistic vision is realized through the alchemy of humble materials such as fluffy fiber-bolls picked from the cotton shrub; wool sheared from sheep, goats, muskoxen, camels and others; and silk spun from caterpillars feeding on white mulberry leaves.  Also essential to the process is the almost endless toil of countless fitters, cutters, pattern-makers, seamstresses, tailors, pressers, and embroiderers who have devoted most of their lives to this craft, and art.  Devotees of the runway show(s) at the presentation of Haute Couture compare it a transcendental moment where everything else is forgotten upon viewing breathtaking creations by designers such as Lacroix, Gaultier, Givenchy, Valentino, and other visionaries. Not unlike Theatre and Performance, haute couture is simultaneously playful/provocative/
querulous/quarrelsome/regal/resplendent/seductive/shocking/tempestuous/tempting, and always unforgettable.

Enjoy tomorrow and your private vision of beauty,
Shane
